United Missionary Girls’ High School first opened in 1834 as a boarding school for twenty-four
boys. The premises later shifted from Alipore to Bhownipur when a girls’ section was added in 1837. The schools
shared a campus, but were run separately.
In 1916, the Methodist Missionary Society and British Missionary Society combined with the London Missionary Society to
become United Missionary Girls’ High School.
